About the challenge

Spend event's duration of 32 hours in order to explore fields at the convergence of life science and information technology (genetics, biomedical devices, bioinformatics, e-health, public health, health related information services, ecology, new foods, nano-medicines, human-computer/brain-computer interfaces, new materials, medical imaging, bio-engineering, new drugs, 3D bioprinting, robotics).

Identify problems facing either individuals or the entire humankind (related to health, ecology, need of new materials and substances or new ways to generate and deal with energy, etc), imagine, detail and present solutions and how they will be turned to reality.

Requirements

What to Build

  • a conceptual idea description (a creative style paper/presentation based on a scientific approach, describing a problem, exploring its context and analysing a set of possible solutions, selecting one as the most appropriate and describing how it will be operated in order to contibute to solving the indicated initial problem)
  • a piece of life science educational content (a coherent and preferable multidisciplinary set of multimedia materials approaching and transmitting knowledge taylored for students 7-18 years old, eventually including experimental components based on the usage of the molecular biology equipment aquired through Timisoara Life&Bytes project - PCR machines, electroforesys devices, micropipettes, lab experimental kits)
  • a practical, functional, project at MVP or prototype stage (for example, a mobile of web app, a hardware device, etc.)

What to Submit

After the development part of the event and after receiving guidance, feedback and support from the mentors, towards the end of the event, the participating teams are expected to submit their competition entries in the following form:
- a link to a PowerPoint or Google Slides slideshow
(for the conceptual idea outcome)
- a link to a labXchange.org educational pathway
(for the educational content outcome)
- a link to the app, site or a tangible prototype or model of the device (for the practical project outcome)
